Borgovia

The last king of Borgovia died without an heir. This began the War of Borgovian Succession as the four dukes warred upon the others for power.

The Western & Eastern Dukes fought bitterly to place themselves on the throne. Meanwhile the Northern Duke declared himself King in the North elevating his realm to a kingdom. The Southern Duke and his folk welcomed this as a return of their original independence and restoration of their Agiad culture. The royal overseas colonial possessions followed suit and declared their independence. 

Most historians regard the end of this period as the start of the Long War. The WBS period ended with an armistice that established East & West Borgovia as separate states with both recognizing the independence of Vinland & the Agiad. The armistice would not last.  Just 40 years later the Long War erupted. Both sides dropped atomic bombs on the other.  The tactical atomic weapons & chemical warfare use each side  deployed against the other has led to the creation of periodic acid rainfall. No where is this more evident then in the Waste. The war zone border between East & West. Some of the perils facing fighting men in this region are pools of acid rain and chemical warfare agents. There are low areas that are filled with poisonous gas, that unless you are wearing your gas mask, will kill you if drop into them seeking cover from enemy fire. The Waste is a bleak, muddy and desolate landscape. Both sides have had to deal with men stricken mad by long service periods exposed to the desolation there.
