Welcome to AGSH. A solo-war-game blog dedicated to my father and the world's most noble hobby; collecting toy soldiers. Here toy soldiers clash in great battles from scales of 2mm to 1/6 scale.

"Truly it can be said of him, without count are his soldiers & beyond measure his might." - Prince Edward in reference to Lord Butler & his invasion force departing London for Mars.

3mm ACW Union Infantry Regiment and Artillery Battery

It has been over a year since I last worked on this project and it felt good to be back in it this past weekend. I painted up one regiment from the "Irish Brigade" (note the green regimental standard) and an artillery battery. These two units along with what I previously had now bring my Union Army to a Division level. So I now have two brigades, each with two infantry regiments and an artillery battery. Of course these soldiers will see service in my planned "Clockwork Civil War" steampunk inspired ACW battles.

New Portable Crafting/Painting Lap-Table

I built a lap-table today. With the exception of the large bottles it holds all my paints. I paid $36 in craft lumber, wood glue and screws. Took about 4 hours from start to finish. It was a joy to build. I spent the evening going through my paints and throwing out dried up bottles and pulling "slugs" from others. I've decided I need to come up with some type of organization for my paint purchases in the future. Which will be soon as I am out of orange.

2018 Prussian National Elections

Koenigsberg (AP): The Chief Counsel of Prussia Brigitta Olson swore in the new National Assembly today and a few hours later she welcomed back Frieda von Moltke as Chancellor of Prussia. This will be her second term in the chancellery.  Chancellor von Moltke was a clear favorite over her rival, Conrad Hekel the former first Chancellor.  Outgoing Chancellor Jaap von Huack and his cabinet have joined with von Moltke's bloc within the National Assembly. He will undoubtedly seek re-election in 2020 when he is eligible to run again. He is clearly the more hawkish member of the bloc. Prussian law forbids any candidate back to back elections to the Chancellery. However the law does not prohibit a future candidacy after a two year term.

The Chancellor and her cabinet.
She has stated that she envisions a larger role for Prussian troops in the Mafeking Civil War in Southern Africa. Her administration will make a Heinleinist victory there a top priority. "We must strengthen our Afrika Brigade by giving them the men and equipment needed to bring victory to the HNP."

Currently the Afrika Brigade is a brigade on paper only. It has been a demi-brigade or half-brigade since coming to South Africa. Already the Prussian General Staff is drawing up the needed documents and studies to make it a full combat brigade.

At the same time Prussian forces in Camp Kondor Karakistan had been operating on a half-brigade status as well. Troops and equipment were rushed home for fear of a possible conflict with Lithuania. But that that tension has resolved itself for now. She has ordered that forces at Camp Kondor return to full strength and that the PDF resume it's "peacekeeping" duties alongside our Russian allies in Karakistan.

She also saw the promotion of Albrecht Wagner as the new Commandant of the Prussian Defense Force and Chief of the Prussian General Staff. Major General Wagner had served as the commander of the 1st Combat Brigade stationed in Prussia. MGen Wagner has outlined a new vision for the PDF with a greater role in Prussia and the world.

3mm WW2: Test in the Desert

(Continued play-testing of my grid-less version of Bob's Portable Wargame Rules.)

1941 Gazala Region, Libyan-Egyptian Border, North Africa. DAK Kampfgruppe Weinkeller was charged with breaking through the border and capture the western Egyptian town of Gazala.

Unknown to Lt. Col. Weinkeller the 9th British Tank Regiment under command of Colonel Paul Allen was speeding to the border to stop him.

The British started with 9 units. A reinforced battalion of armor. A reinforced battalion of infantry and an artillery battalion. The DAK force departed for Egypt with a reinforced infantry battalion, an armored company and an armored car company. They also had air support from the Luftwaffe. A total of 7 units. The exhaustion point for each force was 3 losses.

The British force took a beating before the battle ended but they held the border and pushed the German force back.

After opening moves both sides draw near the border.

German Stukas rain hell down upon a British battery.

A German armored car company routes in after heavy
bombardment from a British artillery unit.

Two photographs showing the closing moments of the battle.
